One reason you don't mess with a novel virus is because you don't know the lasting effects. It's not just deaths that are the problem but potential for long lasting CHRONIC side effects such as lung, heart & neurological damage that people will have to live with for their lives
This could potentially means even IF a vaccine is developed 10s of MILLIONS of Americans could suffer from long lasting chronic conditions.
With schools reopening in the states...It could lead to a complete GENERATION affected by these chronic and detrimental conditions.

This GENERATION of youth is the generation that works and supports the older generations. If their ability to work and function is compromised it's not just bad for them on a personal level but bad on a systemic and societal level.
With America never having even completed the first wave of Covid-19, the ramifications are incredible. The motivation to reopen the country prematurely aren't for the benefit of the country. They are at the detriment of the country.
There has been no coronavirus response in the US on a federal level. Everything the Trump administration has done is in the hope the economy keeps up until the election. Trump and his republican governors are under reporting cases/deaths at both a state and federal level.

This virus isn't just going to go away once a vaccine is developed & ADEQUATELY safely tested. The death/case toll is THUS FAR. It's not even close to being the end or the total number. Exponential growth will make sure of that esp if no active counter measures are in place.
America is at 165k deaths and 5,149,723 cases in ~7 months. This is tested + reported cases vs ACTUAL cases. The likely number for both is much higher. Even supposing a vaccine is developed and distributed the US has only done 65 million tests. Their is 330 mil ppl in the US.
This virus in the US is going to last a lot longer than most people think. The economic, health and social damage will linger for generations, American's wont be able to leave their country for holidays/business for years and hundreds of thousands will have died.
I look forward the the Nuremberg trials for Trump and all those who have pushed their anti-intellectualism and maliciousness on to the whole of America. The blood and negative effects are on their hands. At no stage did it ever have to be this bad. But because of them it is.
