To recap: More than 160,000 people in the US have died from Covid-19. The vast majority of deaths which were preventable.

Because of gross mismanagement of the outbreak the Census, which makes sure each person in this country is adequately represented by the govt, was shortened

Because of the pandemic which is happening during an election year, there has been a push for mail in voting.

The President has responded by kneecapping the postal service such that first class mail which normally takes two to three days to arrive can take upwards of 2 weeks.

He has also, pushed to eliminate access to TikTok and WeChat, ostensibly introducing internet censorship exactly like the authoritarian states we profess to disdain. You can't use Google in China, for example. Explain to me how this is different.

At the same time that all of this is going on, there have been sustained protests across the United States for racial justice. Police officers have responded by assaulting and gassing people executing their first amendment rights.

The federal government deployed Federal Troops on US soil and among other things pulling people off of public streets, putting them into unmarked vehicles, detaining them without arrest and then releasing them.

And all of this is happening atop a very hot summer and an extremely active hurricane season, all linked to climate change which this administration is failing to address.

In fact, they gave polluters the green light to not disclose excess emissions at the start of the pandemic

And given all of this, the government overall is pushing for school re-openings without so much as necessitating mask wearing or social distancing such that we are likely to continue experience mass death for the near future.

And through all of this there are media reports that have been very good at giving us a snapshot picture, when it comes to stitching it all together into a cohesive picture of how royally fucked we are they revert to traditional paradigms

They write pieces about how the president is finally taking the moment seriously.

Or they both sides mask wearing, providing platforms for people who traffic in conspiracy theories and/or push for state sanctioned violence.

They also report out false equivalencies.

Such as that recent piece which described Antifah in the most backwards way possible but never once mentioned that white supremacist groups commit most extreme killings in the US.

Cool. cool. cool.

I know I'm missing things like packing the courts, and the environmental rollbacks etc etc etc. This is just a big ass sweep about how fucked we are
