Private Healthcare REGULATION ...

Between 1996 - 2000 my mother was in out of NIMS (A Govt Hospital in Hyd ) for her cancer treatment . I used to be with her during | post surgeries and Chemotherapy sessions . The doctors were highly competent & committed. One particular General
Surgeon Dr X , was so exceptional not only in the way he treated patients but his interest in developing software ( imagine actually developing) software to help him become more efficient . His wife was a senior scientist in a National Research org in Hyd where I occasionally
lectured . Sometime in 2000 Mrs X told me that her husband shifted from the govt hospital to a Corporte Hospital because both her sons are aiming for higher studies abroad and his salary in the govt set up is restrictive. A few years passed and one day when I came out of my
lecture I asked how her husband was doing. She said that he left the corporate hospital in less than a year because of highly UNETHICAL practices ! She said that both her sons thankfully managed to get scholarships . Apparently Dr X would come home post work -sit in silence
at times even cry after returning from the Corporate hospital . He used to read spiritual texts like Gita to stay sane . He finally decided to quit & rejoined the govt hospital with a piddly pay !
This story goes back 20 yrs !!! Imagine how corporate hospitals must be now !
Private Healthcare must be REGULATED in India - ills like

Medical Negligence
Exorbitant Charges
Organ Transplant Scams
Referral Commissions
Untrained Staff
Govt land at concessional rates
Unethical Practices

Can be addressed ! And we are on the job ...
