In the sea of horrors that is 2020, nothing compares to the tragedies of WWII. Atomic bombs were dropped on Japan 75 years ago to end the war. Two more horrors argued to avoid many more. 2020 reminds us our lives can change in a flash. Humans seemed designed to forget. Let’s not.
As we complain about our rights to not wear a simple mask to shop for snacks, or as the ultra-rich seek to protect their wealth by choosing political sides — we have to wake up to the fact we’re all in this together. Eventually the effects of ignorance will come to our doorstep.
What I’m saying is, it’s absurd to complain about not wearing a mask during a global pandemic. Or to believe elected leaders won’t lead you to much worse times if you’re not careful. Let’s remember we’re still pretty lucky, and be vigilant enough to do something about it.
Now is a great time to crack open some history books and watch the many documentaries of history unfolding. Anniversaries of events such as those of WWII should be some of the most highly visible on a platform like Twitter. And yet you have to ask yourself why they are not.
