The destroyer USS Johnston drew first blood, blowing the bow off a Japanese cruiser with a torpedo salvo..
Soon followed by artillery hits. One engine out, half speed, 3 of her 5 guns destroyed, bridge crew dead, and the captain with an amputated hand, she stayed in the fight

The destroyer escort USS Samuel B Roberts found herself in middle of the Japanese fleet, toe to toe with a battleship almost 3x her size...
She was so close the Japanese crews couldn't depress their guns low enough to hit her, while she fired 5 inch shells a point blank range

Taffy 3 aircraft, returning from onshore airstrikes, low on fuel with no bombs, proceeded to strafe the Japanese ships, .50 cal bullets bouncing off battleship armor.
Once out of ammo, the aircraft begin making faux torpedo runs, trying to harass the Japanese ships

The destroyer USS Hoel was hit in the rudder, locking her steering into a continuous circle.
The captain, afraid of being hit with her torpedoes still on board, Salvo fired all torpedoes on the fly.
The torpedoes missed a cruiser but drove towards the Battleship Yamato...

Evading the torpedoes, the Yamato ran *away* from the battle..
Taking Admiral Kurita with it, preventing him from controlling the Japanese fleet in the battle...
Soon, as it seemed Taffy 3 was about to fall.. Kurita ordered retreat
