1. Here’s a thread on what’s happening in Aussie politics right now & why ppl like us are so angry.

Scott Morrison abdicated his leadership to states back in March 2020, becos his decisions around #COVID19 were so poor Premiers had to take control of states. Everyone saw this.

2. Then both NZ & some Australian states eradicated the virus. This highlighted Morrison’s failed leadership even more. Ardern has showed him up as someone who’s loosely at the head of a collection of states making their own decisions, instead of an effective leader of a country.

3. Once that happened, he knew he’d lose the next election unless he could blame Labor. He can’t blame federal Labor as they’ve behaved in a bipartisan manner, so the outbreak in Victoria was a gift (& even more ironic as responsibility for quarantine & Aged care are federal).

4. Morrison has to get VIC votes to win next election, since ppl in SA, WA, TAS & QLD are angry with him over wanting borders open. So he has to throw everything at VIC. That’s why he’s not only allowed VIC LNP MPs to slam Andrews, but has openly colluded with them to do so.

5. And this is why we are so angry with the press. The decision to actively undermine Andrews’ messaging is POLITICAL & has nothing to do with HEALTH & LIVES. This has been publicly admitted on TV 3 days ago. Morrison is actively conspiring to kill Victorians to win an election.

6. Thus, the push-back from journalists is so enraging & wrong. They’re right to defend their colleagues from outright abuse. They’re also right to say Andrews has made errors & these should be investigated properly. But where they are OH SO WRONG is to defend the behaviour ..

7. ... of journos & LNP operatives who’re NOT operating from a position of caring about health, but from caring about nothing but power & winning elections. Those of us who see this have no choice but to defend Andrews, & it isn’t, in most cases, becos we think he’s blameless.

8. It’s becos we must defend the country from being operated from a basis of electioneering strategy when ppl are dying. Becos if Morrison’s tactics work, far more Victorians will die as more will flout rules & distrust Andrews’ decisions. Becos it is unconscionable to run a ...

9. .. pandemic as if you’re running a Liberal Party campaign. Which is EXACTLY what Morrison’s doing, aided by Murdoch. He knows all in AUS can see NZ. They can also see WA, SA, NT, TAS & QLD insisting on rejecting his leadership to stay virus-free. He’s a dead man walking ..

10. .. unless he makes Andrews poison. & it’s working: largely because many journos who’d say they’re progressive are so hung up on false narratives & on defending colleagues (who don’t deserve it) or remaining silent in some weird journo solidarity they’re helping him do this.

11. That therefore makes ALL OF THEM complicit too. This is not a game, or the time for preferencing work relationships over lives. They seem incapable of seeing how dangerous their behaviour is. That, or they truly don’t care. Either way, ppl will never forgive them.

12. Electioneering during a pandemic is disgraceful. & assisting that process, or ignoring it, is just as disgraceful. The virus should’ve been eliminated everywhere here, and everybody knows it. Morrison fucked it up, so uses Murdoch to re-write the story. Gaslighting 101. End.
