1/7We really have to kill this notion that the wealthy have divided the White working class and poor against the non-white working poor. That's not how race nor class nor humanity works.

2/7 A defining characteristic of humanity is that prestige is more important than brute economics. So White ppl are addicts, but they are addicted to racism. They use money to support their racism habit, not racism to support their wealth addiction.

3/7 The suburbs and private schools are filled with folks who have gone into crushing debt for the sake of prestige.

4/7 The big problem isn't that White people ignore their economic interests to chase prestige; it's that their prestige is tied to sustaining a racial hierarchy, rather than to doing justice.

5/7 This idea that justice is going to come through getting working class White people to chase their economic interests, and thereby align with the working poor of other races, is an enormous red herring.

6/7 The real road to racial justice goes through dismantling the institutions that normalize conferring prestige and stigma in racialized and class based ways.

7/7 This is ultimate failure of Black respectability politics.
It's White prestige politics in blackface. It mimics all of the classism and even racism of White institutions because Black respectability politics doesn't dutifully interrogate how prestige and stigma is conferred.
