First thing's first: Wow.

The feelings after hearing about Andrea Pirlo's appointment as first team manager were of excitement, intrigue and most of all: risk.

It's not like Conte, nor is it like Zidane. It's a risk vs. reward move with a high degree of 'boom or bust.'
Let's face it, we know nothing other than Andrea was an iconic talent and might prefer an attacking-based 4-3-3.

Juventus is clearly banking on Pirlo's predestined footballing ability to translate at the managerial level. We've seen it work and (more often) we've seen it fail.
Ultimately, while Sarri was the antithesis of what Juventus tends to represent as a club, Pirlo has greater understanding of the culture and environment of (to be precise) this cycle we're currently in.

More akin to the Lo Stile Juve we're historically all accustomed to.
My greatest concern this morning about us making our managerial decision was finding someone who would gain the respect of the squad.

Certainly, that's Andrea. But of course, far more goes into being a manager.

PATIENCE WILL BE REQUIRED. Temper expectations and let him learn.
In terms of results, I have full confidence that the quality of the squad will carry us forward domestically while Andrea learns on the job.

The true test of what he's capable of tactically will come in Europe where he's likely to either sink or swim as a manager.
The club is putting Pirlo in a place to succeed with a squad that can more or less manage domestic competition on it's own anyway.

I don't view this as many of the banter hires of former greats we've seen in the recent past where he's in a situation that's setup to fail.
The club is making a commitment to Andrea today.

Unless he absolutely bombs, which is hard to envision given our individual quality, this will be a process and it'll require the belief of everyone from club level down to the fan base.

Understand this is a major gamble.
To conclude, while I'm apprehensive about these novelty situations, if there's one person I have confidence in to succeed it's Andrea Pirlo.

It's fun, bold and alternative. But it's also the biggest risk we've made in this cycle.

Cautious optimism, but *plenty* of excitement.
