in my opinion, the reason why zurena is such a great ship is mainly because of their complexity, not only together but also as individuals. of course they're toxic in a way, because the environment they've been living in (especially zulema) is just as toxic, if not even worse +
so it's understandable that they acted the way they did together. everyone keeps crucifying maca for the way she behaved with zulema but she went through A LOT in the field of relationships: she was betrayed by simon+
fabio made her believe that they would run away from prison together, and her relationship with rizos was super messy. so, maca had her share of bad luck in relationships, and so did zulema: she was abandoned by the man that got her pregnant and she had to exchange+
hanbal for her freedom, and that obviously affected her, because she definitely cared for him, in her own way. even though i can understand the perspective of the people that don't ship zurena, at the same time i don't imagine myself not shiping them+
bc i do really think that they could be an amazing couple, but the circumstances (and the writers) weren't on their side. however, their complexity always allowed us to dig into their thoughts and try to find different possibilities for what could've happened or what they felt+
but in the end, i'm sure of two things: the first one is that no one understood them better than they understood each other, and that's why they felt like each other's home, because they had someone to connect too, that knew what they've been through and how they felt+
and the final one is that i'm still convinced that it was tough for maca to leave zulema behind and that she felt really thankful to her.
anyways sorry for my rant i'm feeling emotionally unstable 😗✌️
