For comparison, Stanford IRB wouldn't let me randomize feedback to white people about their racial attitudes. https://twitter.com/joshbudlender/status/1292170843389386761
Design: respondents take IAT and we provide false feedback. Interested in how feedback would matter for various outcomes, conditioned on some individual-level characteristics. Reviewer wondered what I'd say to White person who was upset after taking test saying they were racist.
I've never had more fun responding to an IRB reviewer comment, though we did change the study design to one that is much costlier than our original design.
My work asking Black folks all sorts of questions about their identity, including questions about shame and embarrassment is mostly exempt. The study on the Whites is the only one of my studies that has an expiration date of 1 yr before I need to get it reviewed again.
