I can't wrap my head around what Dr. Chughtai said to Qasmi sb that combining state and religion is a value neutral thing and it going in direction of fascism or fanaticism depends on the rulers. This kind of politcal understanding in age of nation-state and secularism
and of politicizing the category of 'religion' in all the negative ways doesn't reflect well for head of SNC who is insisting that religion is just for ethical lessons there. When you accept that the modern nation-state can have a religious identity you have backtracked on the
promise of equality and human rights as well as have vulgarized and instrumentalized very deep and personal emotions of religion. Dr. Chughtai also goes into detail about state building and propaganda and implicitly rationalizes use of religion for state-building while
ignoring that modern nation-states should build on civic values, shared future and a shared reading of history (the more objective, the better). If this is the wrapped understanding of use of religion for state-building of the head of SNC who is a competent professional, what
we can expect from the rest? She is proving again and again that the SNC is a project to further reinforce the state's narrative and through the polemic of 'equality' and her credentials an exclusionist and violent state-making narrative is normalized.
