THREAD

My experience with my fellow political staffers is that the vast majority are highly motivated, hard working people who dedicate themselves to the betterment of the country. This is the case for staffers from all parties and all orders of government 1/5
What I also know is that our jobs require long and grueling days and, for good reasons, place restrictions on the kind of work we an do after serving in our roles.

Another of the realities of the nature of our work is that it requires sacrifice from our families. 2/5
My partner moved to a city where she barely knew anyone and away from a family and community support network after our weddding. At times, the move has been to the detriment of her career. My son is just about 2 and has lived in 5 houses on 3 cities. 3/5
I'm not complaining, it's an honour & privilege to do these jobs

But questioning the ethics of a staffer because their partner has a job, which they properly reported & put in measures to ensure there wasn't a chance of conflict is complete bullshit bordering on a vendetta. 4/5
The only purpose it serves is to dissuade good people from entering public life and to require even more sacrfice from our families

The media can and should do better and for goodness sakes lets leave public officials families out of it unless there is a real story. 5/5
