Thread: I’m not being cynical here, nor am I rejoicing in people’s pain or failure. That said, I think church leaders need to think through the fact that a church which set the bar of “success” for a couple of decades produced a whole heap of brokenness.
When we see this do we respond by saying, “but for the grace of God...” or can we ask some deeper questions? Like, should we abandon the model? Should we seek to theologically redefine ‘leader.’ Or simply, what about the environment allowed this happened?
This is not to deny that good happened. But bad happened too, and it’s utterly heartbreaking. Are there new conversations (or, likely, old conversations revisited) that can help us become healthier people who disciple healthier people?
