THREAD: Analysing the 2019/20 performances of our exciting young Hale end graduates. It's a topic that people wanted me to discuss and provide my thoughts/opinions. RT's so more Gooners can see the thread would mean a lot. Hope you guys enjoy the read!😁🔴
JOE WILLOCK: He's broken into the first team for a few years now and is a player who has received plenty of minutes. He does have a lot of desirable attributes. He carries/drives with the ball well and is full of energy, which is certainly an aspect MA likes in him.
The only problem I have with Joe and its something he must work on is his decision making in the final third. He takes up such good positions throughout games but lacks the composure when it matters. Football is a game of fine margins and always like to analyse the small details.
There are three games on the top of my head where he could have made the difference. The first is Watford away. We didn't deserve anything from that game, as they could have easily scored 7 or 8. But the game is at 2-2, 88th minute and we created a 2 v 1 scenario in our favour.
He has Auba next to him but opts to go along a different route and fails to provide the cutting edge that was required. Similar situation was created against Bournemouth, MA's first game in charge. The obvious one is against Chelsea at home. Lacazette is in a good position, and..
and he has to lay it off to him. He opts to shoot instead. The moment you select to go along this avenue, you have to score. He doesn't take the opportunity. Yes the referee didn't provide us with no favours, as Jorginho has to be sent off. But I alway like to analyse our..
performance first and Joe had the opportunity to kill the game and be the difference. He's not the only one who hasn't capitalised on the fine margins this season. Lacazette is another who has been guilty of lacking cutting edge and decision making when opportunities have arrived
But this is an area that I haven't seen JW improve on over the last two years. I do like the way MA is utilising him, post COVID-19, utilising his energy and intensity he provides for the last 20/30 minutes to our advantage which has allowed us to press teams towards the death of
games. His best position for me is as a box to box 8, not a 10. Similar to the way Arron Ramsey plays, always looking to get goals. But he has a lot to work on. A loan will benefit him and preferably to a PL team. But regardless of where, he needs to develop at a quicker pace,...
receive regular minutes elsewhere and work on aspects that he lacks currently within his game. We can then analyse his situation in a year's time and see whether he has a future or not at the club. I do hope it works out for him.
ESR: Spent time at the club for the first half of the season. His performances in the league cup and EL group stages in the previous campaign were encouraging. The short few games we saw of him this season though weren't too convincing. There is so much potential there and I think
he is a player who is capable at playing in between the lines and providing creativity. But he didn't impose himself in the few games we saw of him this season for us. Fair play to him for going out on loan and looking to develop elsewhere. He put in a number of solid displays.
I think he should be in the squad for at least the first half of the season. Play him in the EL group games and league cup games. Then analyse the situation in January and see whether a loan will be more beneficial to his development. But he is a player that I am excited to see!
AMN: I really like him. Under MA, he has been fantastic and has raised his performance levels. I think he has finally realised that he is playing for Arsenal football club! Appreciate it! When he has played in his favoured CM role he hasn't convinced me. Game that springs to mind
this season was against Vitoria at the Emirates. Sloppy in possession and they capitalised on a turnover from his error. But we have seen that post COVID-19, he is a player that MA trusts. Came on against Wolves and dealt with Adama. Mahrez and Mount are two others he dealt with.
I hope we don't move him on as he is so versatile, able to play multiple positions. I want to see him compete with Hector at RB. So many desirable traits. Good physicality, improved on his defensive awareness, strong in 1v1 scenarios and creates an outlet offensively. Keep him!!!
SAKA: This kid is special. The game against Quarabag last season at home stood out to me. But no one could predict his rapid rise in development this year. No matter where MA has played him, he has flourished. LB,LWB,LCM,RW,LW are all positions he has played this season and has
provided great performances. His high volume of assists provides clear evidence of the creativity he provides. MA is managing his game time really well. His last few performances haven't been to the level he has consistently produced throughout the course of the season.
And this is common for young players. When young prospects aren't performing, its a sign of them burning out and should therefore be taken out of the team. Pep is great at this. Foden is a fantastic prospect and the game time/minutes he has received has been managed perfectly.
Pep knows when to take him out of the firing line. Back to Saka and he is best suited at LW. Fantastic at creating width, stretching play, taking players on and possesses great quality in his crossing. With MA, i'm confident he will continue to develop at a fast rate.
NELSON: A player who divides opinion amongst the fan base. But me personally, I rate him highly. Sharp and possesses a quick burst of pace that enables him to go from 0-100 quickly. Trickery, good with both feet and can play on either wing. He certainly can impose his game..
more and this is something he must work on. He needs to be more direct and BRAVE!! Saka is the blueprint! But the talent is there. Obviously, he was vital in the game against Liverpool but his performances in the FA cup were also encouraging. Goal against
Leeds and two assists against Portsmouth Signing Willian will help his development as the experience and knowledge the Brazilian would provide will benefit him massively. I want to see him next season and transition his youth level performances into the first team
NKETIAH: Loan at Leeds for the first half of the season. He scored a few goals and that is an aspect Eddie will provide you with, if the service and supply lines are there. His spell for us in the second half of the season has had highs and lows. I like him and the intensity
he provides out of possession is tailored to MA's style. He needs to work on his hold up play as well as his decision making needs improvement. But that will come with games. Interested to see how he performs in the EL group stages and league cup games.
