I want to make something crystal clear regarding the Dick Vogt situation. In 2018, at #JMIH, he was not stripped of his award and publicly called out because he showed women in bikinis.

He has had a long history of sexual harassment at meetings.
Many, many women have come forward publicly and anonymously to state this.

When @ToadallyPriya tweeted out about his bikini pictures, she knew the history and the context. BA picked this up and inserted herself into the conversation.
BA had no context and did far more harm by minimizing the impact that DV had one many women by making it about this one bikini pic instead of his long history of harassment.

I repeatedly tried to correct the record in the many interviews I gave to outlets.
But BA was always quoted first and took credit. Now there are many people in the #herp community that brush off DV's reckoning because it was "just a picture."

Again: It wasn't. It isn't.

BA, and then the media perpetuated this.
To get all-Hamilton, I was "in the room" when discussing these issues with @HerpLeague leadership. The bikini pic was obviously inappropriate, but was just the final straw in a long, long, long history of objectifying and minimizing women #herpetologists.
@TurtleSurvival needs to remember this. The community needs to remember this and set the record straight. Many, many women have been hurt by DV. Several have confided in me that they left academia because of it.
Imagine the talent and vibrancy that freshwater #turtle research could have if not for this one person!

Freshwater turtles are deeply imperiled and understudied. The herp community has lost incalculable insight and brain power to help them by this one man.
Don't continue giving him a platform. It is horrifying to me to see all of the hard work and bravery of many individuals be so easily dismissed.

It isn't about a picture. It's about a pattern of harassment.
