(Thread) Accreditation for journalists is a tool of censorship and blackmail. Three prominent @CurrentTimeTv journalists were deported yesterday for working without accreditation; they applied for it a few months ago. Now they are banned from entering Belarus for ten years.
Around 150 international reporters applied to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for accreditation and nearly no one was given accreditation or an answer. Many have arrived without accreditation and now face arrest and deportation. Protests will take place with no foreign cameras.
Authorities regularly threaten reporters and @RFERLPress in particular with canceling accreditations if they continue to streaming the protests or cover something. @Belsat_TV never was given the accreditation.
Those who worked in Belarus know what is to be a journalist here. You always risk. Recently, the police arrested the crew during a live stream and broke the nose to my friend Anton Trafimovich. Journalists are the first target for riot police.
Moreover, journalists have to put significant effort to get any information from the state officials. Journalists are often treated as enemies of the state. My colleagues, Journalists who work in the field are real heroes.
