Lebanon ran out of wheat, fuel, electricity, water, foodstuffs, and many essential goods.
It’s security forces never run out of tear gas and rubber bullets, despite their heavy use against protesters.
Not content with killing 150+ and injuring 5000+ human beings, Lebanon’s politicians sent the security forces to crush a protest, and cause more injury and suffering on the people.

According to Red Cross, there have been almost 110 injuries among protesters today, caused by security forces.
Hospitals are already strained by the explosion, many were destroyed, but Lebanon’s politicians don’t care at all.

Seeing reports that live ammo is being used. I’m not sure how accurate. Rubber bullets can be quite penetrative. Still, about 110 injured, and the protests are still ongoing. No behavior by Lebanon’s politicians is shocking anymore.

Reminds me of life in wartime Lebanon. Broken glass was ubiquitous sight. Except this time it is not war, it is extreme levels of negligence.

Lebanese protesters occupied the head office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They destroyed a portrait of the president.
Reminds of when burning portraits of the Assads became a national pastime in Syria.

Unfortunately, the world can see that they are resorting to brutal methods.

Lebanon’s Annahar newspaper - whose office building suffered great damage in the Beirut explosion - is reporting that thugs from Amal Movement (speaker of parliament’s party) attacked one of its reporters and confiscated his phone.

The security forces are not doing anything to repell the partisan thugs who have attacked protesters and journalists, and who have fired live bullets.
They are too busy causing their own share of injury and suffering.

The protest crowd is much smaller than at the revolution’s peak. Less than half of the crowd that gathered in Beirut.
(People are still dealing with the rubble, are in shock)
But it seems they are much more determined this round.
I fear the order to attack will come at night, under the cover of darkness. We’ve seen it before.

And anyway, those will yield not a single without a fair electoral law. The current one was designed to predetermine the result.

Security forces are getting teady to remove protesters from the building of the Association of Banks. Protesters are also occupying three ministries but the security forces decided to prioritize the banks. #ThisIsLebanon
On Saturday evening, when there is not a single employee at the Ministry of Energy, protesters found the offices fully lit and the ACs blasting.
Meanwhile, Beirut is suffering from up to 20 hours of power cuts per day.

Injuries among protesters in Beirut now more than 200, and this figure does not include a whole bunch of people who were just viciously attacked by the army on Ring bridge.
Someone should ask the soldiers after they have homes they can return to at the end of the night because many Lebanese have ended up homeless because of the explosion, and before that, economic strife.

Marching on the presidential palace in Baabda is a great idea. Need diversity in protests, not downtown Beirut every time.
But such a step requires much coordination and planning, and strong commitment from the citizenry to show up in force.

Protest has largely been dispersed. Protesters have been evicted from Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Reports of same from Assoc. Banks building. Less than 20% of evening crowd remains on the streets now.
Internal security forces, as usual, trying to justify their oppression, claims 4 protesters arrested were carrying drugs.
Drugs in people’s pockets, they find. 2700 tons of ammonium nitrate onthe other hand, ...

Protests have ended. The protesters were dispersed by heavy-handed tactics that left 250+ injured. Occupied government buildings have been emptied.
I haven’t seen calls for the next protest yet, there will be for sure. I hope it spans all Lebanon. Beirut stood alone today.
Lebanon’s Minister of Health is preparing to announce a stricter and wider lockdown, he claims due to increased COVID-19 infection rates.
The infection rates started skyrocketing last week. Testing stopped last Tuesday after explosion.
Don’t be fooled. This is about protests.
