Pulling #FEMA $ for #Covid jobless benefits during an extremely active #hurricane season with up to 24 named storms is interesting strategy being floated... (1/3) https://www.washingtonpost.com/us-policy/2020/08/07/congress-coronavirus-stimulus-trump/
I assume it would go thru FEMA’s Disaster Unemployment Aid program... Aside from whether WH actually CAN do this, wouldn’t we expect Congress to designate new $ when communities are hit by natural disasters? Does this sidestep the politicization now holding up aid talks? (2/3)
Either way, it’s an unfortunate strategy; FEMA $ could go to communities NOW for predisaster mitigation, a more efficient use of taxpayer $ that reduces need for post-disaster aid, a move that would be especially smart during this public health & economic crisis. (3/3) thoughts?
