THREAD - If you’re new, recent, or a casual collector of J.League shirts, there is something you should know! For the first seasons of J.League EVERY team wore Mizuno shirts for League and League Cup! But every team had an alternative kit / maker only used in Emperor’s Cup...
Pictures on first tweet show Gamba Osaka’s Mizuno home shirt and their Adidas alternative shirt. While these Mizuno shirts are some of the most collectible shirts around, the “alternative” shirts are some of the rarest about! This tweet shows both versions of JEF United away
JEF United’s alternative supplier was Asics, while Gamba Osaka’s was Adidas.
This tweet shows the highly-sought SEGA-sponsored version of JEF’s away shirt!
Also interesting is that, in general, team supplies had a sponsor on the shirt (though some were also sold to public), while replicas for fans (no difference in quality in those days) had team name, as in these pictures of Urawa Red Diamonds’ shirts.
This thread intends to show both versions of each team’s early shirts - Mizuno and otherwise - as well as add other interesting facts about sponsors, etc., to help collectors decide what they want or have! This tweet Yokohama Flügels’ Mizuno and Puma home shirts.
Interesting fact: Flügels wore white shirts at home, the only team ever to do so in J.League - this caused an interesting problem in one game (story later!) which led to never seeing another J.League team having white home shirts! This tweet has their away shirts ...
BTW I supply new/current shirts to order at retail plus $25-30 approx. “fees” (inc. PayPal commission, postage TO me in Japan, time, service!). Shipping $20 EMS express.
Also search /sell older shirts, all prices, sizes. Will try to find anything! :-) DM for more!
By the way, @JSoccerMagazine and @JLeagueShirts have attempted to compile all J.League teams’ history in shirts at http://www.jsoccer.com  - please check each individual team’s section for their shirts since J.League began (and before). Trying to keep it correct and up to date!
