When we were stuck in Oman, the embassy and consulate were ignoring Canadians’ pleas for help.

Because of Twitter, I got the Embassy’s attention. (Thank you to everyone who bothered my MP)

The Senior Consular Officer suddenly started calling me.
At the end of the day she offered no practical assistance and had NOTHING to do with our eventual departure,

But I got her attention while they continued to ignore other Canadians (we talk)

So that’s what it takes to get govt to respond to citizens in distress. A big stink on
twitter and they contact you to save face.

It’s not about helping Canadians though, it’s about shutting up the loud ones who are about to expose how incompetent & useless you are.

The govt doesn’t care about you; they care about their own legitimacy bc it’s their job security
Twitter was useful somewhat in this regard. It didn’t lead to any concrete help for Canadians but I learned they’re a waste of time & money

Going forward I don’t know how Twitter helps us. Politicians are all so superficial and there’s no accountability.

Need a new plan.
