It's increasingly bizarre to me that autistic adults are desexualized?? when some of the hottest and coolest characters in fiction totally fit autistic-type profiles.
That brilliant scientist/inventor/detective who HAS to do what they do or they will die? Many times at the expense of their personal lives or well being? Sounds autistic.
That clumsy woman who eats dessert first, chases seagulls, cries a lot and laughs too loud, and maybe is a little ~awkward~ in conversation but it doesn't matter because she's so damn cute? Sounds kinda autistic!!
That accomplished socialite who is not just frustrated, but perplexed and distressed about being unable to form intimate friendships? Sounds autistic.
That ambitious protagonist who becomes distressed trying to understand gray areas and social conventions, comes across to others as naive, too eager or uptight, and emotes very strongly? Sounds autistic. (Danny from Cats Don't Dance is another favorite!)
(I have a weak spot for this kind of character, especially when they're paired up with "jaded cynic who finds them slightly irritating but delightful" 😔🙏 choice.)
RELEASE YOUR HEADCANONS, especially for characters of color, it's so rare for us to spend time with these personality types in fiction when they aren't white people.
That buttoned up irritating neat freak who ends up being a totally unhinged panicked disaster nerd? Seems very autistic.

(god bless this archetype..🥺 and Ben Wyatt from Parks and Rec.)
Another favorite, stupendously bangable and explicitly sexually active poorly-adjusted genius: Will Graham.
I can't handle this for much longer because we're getting into the real throes of my deepest thirsts, which includes lonely and obsessive grumps with questionable substance usage
Side note that asexual spectrum autistic people are valid as fuck and at aren't at all responsible for this phenomenon- it's allistics thinking of us as childish and unable to make our own decisions.
That fidgety, impulsive weirdo with deep feels and no filter and a penchant for effortlessly bringing people together? Sounds a bit autistic.
