I have just spent the morning in the Osprey Hotel,Nass as our team deals with the Government instruction that businesses in Kildare,Offaly and Laois are to close for the next 2 weeks. To say that I am frustrated is an understatement @MichealMartinTD @LeoVaradkar @cathmartingreen
We have slowly rebuilt our business in the Osprey since reopening on the 29th of June. We have followed all the reopening protocols as defined by Failte Ireland and the team were doing a fantastic job to ensure that all our guests enjoyed a safe yet enjoyable stay.
Tonight we should have had 100% occupancy with guests enjoying all our facilities including our spa and leisure centre. We will probably now do about 15% occupancy with the hotel closed to non-residents and our remaining guests are here on business and working in the area.
August was looking like it was going to be a reasonable month but that is now gone. I get a sense from talking to people in Kildare today that all of this could have been avoided. It has been well known for weeks that meat plants were hotbeds for the transmission of the virus
This shouldn't have been a surprise to NPHET as meat plants across Europe have been a cause of concern. Why did we not react sooner? Why are we reactive rather than been proactive? Someone somewhere has dropped the ball on this ;good, compliant businesses are non paying the price
To add insult to injury the dog food plant in Nass that was shut down due to an outbreak of the virus reopens on Monday yet we have been forced to close. Hotels/restaurants are not the problem. @MichealMartinTD @LeoVaradkar @cathmartingreen @ElainaFitzKane @DonnellyStephen
#kildare #laois #Offaly are being made an example of and will serve as a warning to the rest of the country. Questions need to be asked; who dropped the ball?
