Periodic reminder: the popularity of this sort of narrative in PC gaming communities very often spills out as aggressive gatekeeping towards people who either live outside a circle of developed countries or just have other things in their lives draining their monetary resources. https://twitter.com/NZXT/status/1291985288806273024
"Just get a job and stop being lazy" or "just get a cheap used gaming pc" or the similar arguments thrown around in every conversation I have ever had about this ignores just the massive price difference for components worldwide and the massive differences in average wages.
Thanks to the PCs flexibility the platform is often THE BEST gaming place for crafty people worldwide due to reduced game costs, inflated console costs, region limitations for console online services, etc.

I wish the community focused more on that and less on elitist BS.
But of course, this image of the PC is reinforced with basically all marketing targeting pc gamers. Probably because margins on high end components are so much better and because ultra enthusiasts in developed countries spend so much more.
Every time you think of a "typical PC Gamer" and visualize a person with a RGB 2080 Ti PC just remember that there is much more underneath the surface.

I literally started out my YouTube channel because I did not feel represented by most PC gaming conversations. I was not alone
