Thread: I made a call yesterday morning to a longtime friend to ask about a problem.

Why, if @FarmBureau is a grassroots organization, are state associations, and the national affiliate, fighting county resolutions in multiple states, specifically for the @ChuckGrassley 1/?
(2/?)
50-14 bill? “AFBF research and math shows it won’t help the producer. But the producer won’t acknowledge that.”

But that’s what they want. It’s their organization. Why are we lobbying against what members are asking for?
(3/?)
I’m told the other issue is, “it forces producers into a certain type of marketing.” Which is accurate.
So i asked: Would you prefer cattle push the way of hogs and chickens? More consolidation? Integration? Less ownership? Screw the independent?
(4/?)
I quote:
“There are many progressive and innovative producers that believe that is a good direction to go. There are more and different marketing opportunities, and can open new doors.”

Who exactly are they working for?
(5/?)
More marketing opportunities for who(m?)? (I wasn’t an English major. I was an Econ major.)

Consolidation and integration turns us smaller independents into employees. No risk. No reward. Basically salaried employees, getting a check to babysit someone else’s stock.
(6/?)
I hate what integration and consolidation has done to hogs. I’ll be damned if I’ll line up and just accept it in #BEEF.

I don’t have strong feelings one way or the other about 50:14 because we cash negotiate and have high quality fats, and a buyer that knows it.
(7/?)
You should do what works for you. But to tell me that integration and consolidation leads to better marketing opportunities is pure bullshit.

I’ll fight to remain independent. If you want to be an employee that’s fine, but i sure as hell don’t. #DemandUSABeef
