I love a lot of different RPG's. But man, I'm so exhausted by the constant "D&D is shit, actually" tweets. If D&D does what people want it to do, then it's the right game system for them.
The level of arrogance it takes to tell people "You're not REALLY enjoying D&D, you're having fun with your friends and you mistook that for enjoying D&D, which sucks" is just... let people enjoy things.
People might actually like that game that you don't like. They might not like that game you like. Get over yourself already, in ten years we'll all be playing something else anyway. I've seen so many games come and go.
What bothers me the most, that I used to BE the snotty RPG hipster sneering at D&D and saying that Talislanta was a real game or whatever. (This is not a dig at Talislanta, which I still love.) I'm fine with people not liking D&D, but not liking it doesn't make you special.
In general, looking down your nose and sniffing while saying "X is bad, and there are many better Y's out there, including Z, my favorite" is just so exhausting. It's tiring when it's music, movies, books, RPG's, other games, ANYTHING. It's pretentious and snide.
I'm a big fan of the RuneQuest system. Especially the variant Basic Roleplaying that Chaosium uses for its other games. I like the various dice pool systems that White Wolf/Onyx Path still use. I've loved Champions/Hero System for years, as complex as it can get.
Green Ronin has like FOUR good systems right now. I'm fine with people loving systems that aren't D&D. It's that need people have to say "Oh, D&D sucks" like a prefix. Just tell me what you like and why. By saying "D&D sucks" first, you make it powerful.
Quest, Blades in the Dark, Masks, 13th Age, by all means, tell me why that game you love is good. I'm so down for that conversation. I love hearing about new games I might not already know. Just miss me with "D&D is shit, play a REAL game" part. It's not necessary.
