I remember an hour long meeting with @jeremycorbyn where I explained how and why he would fail. How he would damage the party and the lives of those who need a Labour government. How he would sink in heartland Labour areas.
He wasn’t interested.
Every disastrous scenario that his leadership would bring I explained to him.
Every scenario has happened. He knew it would, but he didn’t care.
He knew he’d fail. His people knew he’d fail. All he could do was to do what he said he would always do: try to kill Labour from the inside. And when the end was in sight, he tried to set fire to the building on the way out.
He’s still trying and he’s still failing. In common with every single thing he has sought to do in politics, he will fail. Always has, always will. He knows it, too.
So all that’s left is performance art. A show. An illusion.
So pay attention and take it all in because one thing is certain: there won’t be a second series.
And so, finally. Loads of people who joined Labour because they wanted to change society have now seen through Corbyn. They know that he was a disaster. They know that he is an obstacle to progressive change in Britain.
And they are staying in because they want to get this done. They know what happened, they know they were duped. And that’s a good thing.
I think it was ‘92 when Heseltine was asked when Labour would ever win again. His response? “As soon as it wants to.” He was right then and he’s right now. With Keir Starmer, Labour wants to win. That feels good.
