A thread on the colossal stupidity of differentiating between Jai Shree Ram and Jai Siya Ram. The day after the @Bhoomipujan there was a front page article on the difference between Jai Shree Ram and Jai Siya Ram. Desperate efforts to make a non issue into an issue. 1
So first, people say Jai Shree Ram or Jai Siya Ram as per their linguistic affinities, I come from Purvanchal where Jai Siya Ram is normal and SiyaRam is a popular name, for men. There is no evil motive behind it! 2
So is Shree some symbol of hard masculinity and patriarchy? I cannot but laugh. Shree Devi first appears in the RigVeda in the ShreeSuktam. The Purusha Suktam is popular for misrepresentation in Leftist circles but they ignore the Shree Suktam as it does not suit their purposes.3
As I wrote for @Shaktitva on @neha_aks ‘s urging. The Shree Suktam is “arguably, the first literary manifestation of Indic thinking around the feminine principle. The composition of 16 shlokas appears in the khilanis of the Baskala Shakha of the Rigveda. 4
It can be inferred that this is a source for many of the future compositions, thinking and philosophy around the feminine in later times as the Shakta tradition manifested and established itself. 5
Reading the Shree Suktam, the image of Devi rises up before one; effulgent, glowing, the golden one. Green and moist like the earth mother, hot and blazing like the sun, harbinger of happiness, giver of all that mortals can wish for. 6
Creation is in terms of the earth mother , the female body is the manifestation of the divine. Not for nothing is Bharat , or ancient Jambudweepa seen as connected by different parts of the body of Sati. This is not a Shiva centred metaphor for Prithvi but a female centric one.7
So much for the patriarchy inherent in “Shree” ! And in Jai Shree Ram. Note how the feminine form of power and grace is placed before the name of a “man” in Indic tradition. 8
Now who is Siya? A manifestation of the same Shree Devi! This should not be difficult for intellectuals to understand but it escapes them for some reason. This is Seeta, affectionately and tenderly called Siya. Siya is but a tadbhav of Seeta. So where is the difference? 9
The difference is only in the empty minds of the ignorant who are desperate to see the Abramaic notion of patriarchy in every aspect of the Indic tradition and Sanatan Dharma. May Shree Devi grant them some grace! It is in her power to tame the most terrible rakshasas! End
