There was recently a transphobic backlash by UK media, including my own colleague, against the use of the phrase ‘individuals with a cervix’ by @CNN...

Well, a lot of the backlash was transphobic but I suspect much of it was simply ignorant or reactionary.
I’m still hopeful that people like the Archbishop of Canterbury @JustinWelby and down-the-road MP @RosieDuffield1 simply didn’t understand what the phrase signals.

Quickly though, this innocuous descriptor got lost in a wave of rage, mostly from @piersmorgan and crew but also from some embattled, emotionally-exhausted trans folk...

So I’m sharing the video below as reminder that ‘individuals with a cervix’ is not a theory. It’s not PC gone mad. It’s not a debate.

Using inclusive language reflects these fundamental values.
Rejecting inclusion (e.g. with biological essentialism) is to reject real, fellow people - in this instance, people like me - and to disregard our fundamental needs.

My inclusion does not exclude anyone, nor would I ever want it to.
You may not understand. You may insist that my "body is female" and that's all that matters. But luckily, when push comes to shove, you are legally and ethically obliged not to exclude me either.

[Sidenote: Perhaps we could stop debating each other’s humanity and focus on fighting climate change instead...?]

I took these photos throughout my pregnancy in 2017. I have no desire to scandalise. Hopefully, sharing my humanity will help the "persuadable middle" to empathise and move past the debate mindset.
To my fellow seahorse dads, I see you. You are strong and beautiful
