Poetry is my love. I adore teaching it. I blog on it. I don't always like the constraints of the Anthology but KS3 and the unseen element allow for full creativity and wider approaches. This hand-wringing about its 'removal' is indicative of how removed some of the commentators are.
▫️It's *optional*. Some schools will keep it.
▫️This is for one year. For one year group. We have a global pandemic. People are dying. This narrative does not read well for some.

▫️Many of the students who don't sit it in the exam will have already studied it anyway. We've done a poem every Friday at my school; they've had a weekly dose of poetry for Y10 and poetry every year at KS3.
▫️This is not a slippery slope to remove it. It's an attempt... 3/4
... To support teachers and students with an easing of the content in what is an exceptional year. We have never seen anything like it. The platform for discussing this needs to go to teachers who understand the reality of the very limited implications. 4/4
