As the protests have gone, the chanting has gotten much more interesting rhythmically.
As it took forever for that video to load, we are at the Penumbra Kelly building and police bullrushed a few photographers standing on the grass on the other side of this yellow shield line.
I see on twitter that police have declared an unlawful assembly within a minute of protesters arriving, but it’s impossible to hear make out the words of the loudspeaker. I think many people in the crowd genuinely have not heard the loudspeaker going at all.
Police continue to say things no one can understand.
A correction to my earlier tweet: A freelancer for the Daily Mail was arrested earlier when police bullrushed the photographers. I was too busy trying to capture @killendave’s getting pushed back that I missed the ending to that encounter.
Someone who lives about a half mile to the south said they can hear the loudspeaker crystal clear. I was finally able to hear it when I stood on 47th facing north. Must be something about acoustics and where the LRAD is.
Police say they observed people hitting a retaining wall in the neighborhood and throwing projectiles at cops. It appears that the projectile was a water bottle or few that were thrown when police rushed in to arrest the Daily Mail photog.
Police say that people have destroyed a retaining wall and thrown chunks of concrete at officers but no one seems to have seen that that I can find. Took a lap around the building and don’t see any other police other than in the front.
Someone who appears to be a streamer goes on to PPB property and gets arrested.
A couple guys moon the police line. They get no reaction, from like anyone.
The playlist seemed to be any song that talked about police, until it went from N.E.R.D.’s Rock Star to MC Hammer’s Can’t Touch This. Now I’ve lost the thematic thread.
A restless crowd unites around the opening lines of Big Sean. You know the one.
Police moved forward at midnight in a half rush they backed off. I couldn’t find anyone who knows what prompted it, even standing on the front line. But now Rage Against the Machine is adding to the energy and people are throwing eggs and moshing.
Someone brought a whole flat of eggs
Cannot overstate how hyped Rage Against the Machine got this crowd. Like playing Eminem in a locker room to white teens in the early aughts.
The eggs were met with a few smoke bombs and possible impact munitions but was hard to see.
Back to dance party
After being bullrushed and shot with impact munitions from the Penumbra Kelly building down residential street 50th, we are now paused at Stark.
During the drive through the neighborhood, a woman invited protesters into her driveway and dozens went only to be followed by police, tackled, and pushed very forcefully back out to the street.
Police launched flash bangs into the crowd as they walked, used pepper spray on people being arrested as well as others. Maybe other impact munitions but it was very dark.
Here’s the march as it started. This person just got pushed back.
Taking my contacts out with pepper spray still on my fingers was a bad choice.
