I've been thinking about a game session of #TachyonSquadron that would work like a TV bottle episode. The PC Pilots are conducting a deep raid using a large freighter converted into a starfighter carrier, taking the fight to the Dominion! The raid goes well, then disaster! 1/x
The Carrier suffers a major malfunction (or is attacked) and blows up just as the PC Pilots are heading back to it after a successful raid in a Dominion outpost. Now they're stuck fighters are too small to have Interstellar Drives so they're stuck with no way back home. 2/x
Those pilots are also stuck in their Blackfish and they just completed a mission so fuel and munitions are depleted and have I mentioned that Life Support Systems are flashing a warning orange color and is quickly heading for a very angry red color. 3/x
That's the set up for the adventure, and in the favorite words of many GMs, "So, what do you do now?" It's way less Pew-Pew Dogfighting In Space! than the usual #TachyonSquadron adventure though. But there are opportunities for all sorts of action depending on what they do. 4/x
But I could also start the cold open for the game with a the last few rounds of attacking that Dominion outpost and it's Gator fighter screen just to show the usual Tachyon Squadron dogfighting stuff and get the players fighters shot up a little. 5/x
Then after their ride home gets destroyed it's up to the players to figure out how to get back to the Draconis System. It took the Draconis Volunteer Group scrapped and scrounged for a month to put that "Carrier" into space so there is no other ride coming to get them. 6/x
There are lots of options for how the game might go, but I like the PC Pilots having some real roleplaying and character moments as they are all stuck alone in space in their tiny fighters that can't get them home on their own. Lots of compels on the Pilots and the Situation. 7/x
So now I really want to run this scenario. It's very different from my usual #TachyonSquadron convention game 'The Bonanza' which is a lot of fun but is also designed to be an intro game that teaches the mechanics and has lots of Pew-Pew Dogfighting in it! 8/x
This scenario would be for players who are more familiar with #TachyonSquadron and with Fate. I think it would be a ton of fun but buy in from the players would be necessary to really dig in deep and get the most out of it. I hope I can run it with that sort of group one day. 9/9
