Being mum in academia is not easy. Early this year I came to a point where i sat with my 14+16yo kids and asked them if they feel I am not spending enough time with them. I told them that I am ready to give up my job if they want 1/3

They were both surprised and told me that they never once felt neglected. Milly said that she was always so proud of me and the her friends at school think she has the coolest mum. She said she is studding hard to be like me. My boy just repeated the same 2/3

We had a long talk and I realized how mature they are and how much they appreciated me. I was the only one that was feeling guilty and unhappy about being away and working longer hours. We judge ourselves so harshly, we set unrealistic goals in both #academia and in family life
