Thread: 1/As a teacher of ten years, I need you to know something about this pandemic. Covid-19 hasn't created the issues you are seeing in education. It has only revealed and exacerbated them #masks4sasked
2/ Smaller class sizes had been something teachers have been advocating for years. Likewise adequate funding. Yet every year our education budget comes under the knife
3/ On each of the ten years I've been in my building, I've seen teacher numbers get cut. I've seen EA numbers get cut. I've seen counselor availability get pared way down. Our number of special education and resource teachers has been cut.
4/ I know that to the casual observer, it seems like teachers are always complaining about something. We are, and for good reason. The cuts to education (while population is steadily increasing) means that each year, your children's teachers are doing more with less.
5/ Despite this, we love the work! I can't wait to see my kids again. We made due online because we had to, but we know our place is in the classroom. However...
6/ To see this government, which has shown a disdain to adequately fund education every year of my career, act this way during a global health crisis. I think education is the last place to cut funding generally, but to do so during a pandemic is negligent
7/ The only constant here has been @SaskParty . They have held the reins of power in this province since I was a teenager. Their school pandemic plan isn't source of the problem. It's the attitudes ingrained that led us here. Maybe they don't deserve your vote /end
