I do not believe in having transactional relationships. I literally pray to God to keep those kinds of energy-suckers out of my orbit so I can be in intentional community with people who see and love me beyond what they think I can do for them or their careers.
There are people who only form friendships with people who they consider a gateway to opportunities. Keep that spirit far away from me. I know who my people are and we hold on to one another in this cold world. I know when we tell one another “I love you” that we mean it.
That’s some of the best advice I can offer: Develop discernment. Sharpen it. Listen to it. And then only keep the people around you who love you, genuinely root for you, and will hold you accountable and keep you aligned with your stated principles. Discard the rest.
