Love this. And if you are pursuing publication, the ugly truth is you are going to be jealous of your friends at some point. And they'll be jealous of you.

They'll get an agent before you, but your deal will be higher than theirs, but their book will have more sales (1/x) https://twitter.com/gildedspine/status/1291863161486880770
But yours will win an award, but theirs will hit a list yadda yadda yadda. It's impossible to avoid by nature of this industry.

Being jealous of your friends does not make you a bad friend. Taking your jealousy out on them does. And learning how not to is an active skill (2/x)
I'll be the first to say I'm jealous of my friends all the time! Two things that have helped me:

1. Being jealous doesn't mean I don't think my friend doesn't deserve whatever they got.

2. Switching from a "Why not me" to a "That can be me too" mentality (3/x)
9 out of 10 times, the jealousy is my own insecurity about my career manifesting. The fear that I'm going to be forgotten, or my next work is going to bomb or 8 million other little nightmares.

What's the best thing to do with fear when you're a writer? Write it out. (4/x)
It always comes back to the work. The fear doesn't go away, but it becomes something that works for me instead of controlling me.

So learn to make your jealousy work for you, whatever form that takes. And for the love of biscuits, GET OFF SOCIAL MEDIA IF IT'S TOO MUCH (5/5)
