I’m going to do a thread on how somalia can become the next Estonia. Inshallah stay tuned
Estonia gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, the country embarked on a series of fast-track reforms to modernize the economy. Estonia was a very poor country and so in order to help their people they digitalized all services because it was simply cheaper.
When you compare Estonia to Somalia right now, it seems like Estonia was in worse condition. Somalia population knows a lot about technology, yes it’s 100% but the avargae person is able to use a phone/computer
When Estonia was starting out they Barely had landlines let alone Internet access. So key initiative started in education as Estonia pledged to put computers in every classroom and by 2000, every school in the country was online.
The government also offered free computer training to 10 percent of the adult population. The effort helped raise the percentage of Estonians who use the internet from 29 percent in 2000 to 91 percent in 2016.
With the nation able to use technology, they started to digitalize everything. Estonia launched a high-tech national ID system. Physical ID cards are paired with digital signatures that Estonians use to pay taxes, vote, do online banking and access their health care records.
Estonia’s healthcare system has been revolutionized by innovative e-solutions.Each person in Estonia that has visited a doctor has an online e-Health record that can be tracked. Most death are caused by the wrong medication being given, this technology has eliminated all that.
Obviously in order for somalia to digitalize everything, major reforms needs to happens but we could start with regions. Experiment in some ways.
