There’s so much talk about who Joe Biden will choose as the VP. First, many of the women whose names are floating are amazing. Unfortunately, I have only worked with one and that’s Susan Rice. There are many memories but the ones that stand out are when I became Social Secretary.
@AmbassadorRice led with calmness, professionalism and a ‘let’s get this done’ attitude. Having to be at tables sometimes as the only woman of color, she always held her own focusing on what was best for the Nation and those who were in crisis. I watched her make tough calls.
But for me, it wasn’t what she did when people were looking - it is who she is when people aren’t. She sent me a note of Congratulations and gave words of encouragement before every state dinner. She also without hesitation participated in BlackGirl44 and Impact of a Vote.
These programs helped more AfAm students get in to politics & public service. She said she wanted to mentor Black women going in to the natural security space. I hate that this is a ‘rumored’ choice between such amazing women but whoever it is - I will fight like hell for them.
