I’m not suffering from Cerebral Palsy. The only thing I suffer from is ableism and people who think they’re praising you when they say things like this.
I have worked too hard on myself to be whittled down to the idea that I did anything despite disability. No. I love and live my life with disability.
The language we use matters and the implication of suffering through disability as a blanket ideal is the reason we aren’t seen as fully realized humans to this day. This language impacts policy, representation, and how we are forced to navigate the world. It’s so harmful
Disability is not easy. I ache and hurt from disability but I’m not suffering and willing to be used as some inspiration porn you think you’re lifting up.
