Having peeked at tomorrow's papers, I can reveal the twats in govt are talking crap about migrants in boats.
1/ there are no international waters between Dover and Calais. Not enough room. It's British, or French. British vessels cannot enter French waters to 'push back' anyone. That would be an invasion.
2/ sending much larger navy vessels in would increase the risk of a mass drowning which would be politically unfeasible.
3/ navy captains are all bound by the UN Convention on law of the sea which says you rescue people in distress and take them to a safe port. End of.
4/ sending more, but small naval vessels, into the busiest shipping lane in the world is not a goer, because crash, sink, glug glug glug.
Finally, 5/ migrants aren't "caught" during a "battle". They are "rescued" during "danger". Asylum claims must be assessed under international law, and we could deport others easier if we were in the EU. Outside, we depend on a trade and migration deal which Boris hasn't got.
And if you don't believe me, let's all reassemble in a few months and see who Priti Patel blames next time for the thing she promised to fix *checks notes* by last spring.
