I’ve been wondering why racist politics and corruption often go hand-in-hand. Why should racism lead to corruption more than any other sinister ideology (tax cuts for the rich, militarism, etc) — and @josh_levin ‘s Slow Burn abt David Duke gave me some ideas.
White supremacists like Duke style themselves as mavericks. Wild, mad, bad, rebels—Dukes of Hazzard escaping Boss Hogg. Supporters come for the racism but stay for the high of running with the devil — the media and woke school marms hate us, throw us in juvie, we’re renegades
So their high for some Duke and Trump supporters comes from the passing-as-normal and the secret-decoder ring signals and the proximity to hooded Klansmen — it’s like having an affair or being a spy or addict.
Sober heroin addicts say that their recovery is different fr that of alcoholics because if what you’re addicted to is illegal—or considered immoral—then you’ve had to slip into the shadows & be an outlaw for ages. In short you know more ppl in jail & w/guns than stock alcoholics.
So if part of the excitement of white supremacy is you get to believe that the prudes or snowflakes of the world hate your awesome Hells Angels views, your ideology is predicated on the high of “being bad” — which means cheating and corruption are a feature not a bug.
I just find it amazing that Duke and Trump do their racist set pieces and then spend 350 hours saying the media and libs and cucks hate them for it. They don’t reiterate their racism; they underscore their pirate status.
