I think given cis people's instance on using terms like sex, male, and female specifically to argue against equal rights for trans people, the thing we should be saying is "trans women are female" and "trans men are male."
That's honestly what we mean when we say the current version of that statement anyway.

Woman is synonymous with female, same for man/male. When we say that you should treat trans people as their genders, that doesn't include the option to define us out of those categories.
Sex is just as imaginary as gender when you use sex to obfuscate what you're really talking about (eg, you're talking about uteruses, so just say that). "Sex" to cis ppl is just "What gender used to mean before I realized trans people exist and wanted to stop thinking about them"
And yes, saying "trans women are female, trans men are male" can really only leave nonbinary people like myself with an awkwardly-worded addition of, for example, "nonbinary people are the sex they say they are."

That's already an issue with these phrases, however.
Basically, we shouldn't let cis people move the goalposts like this. They think they get to redefine these words to exclude us based solely on a misinformed understanding of sex, but that's not how any of this actually works.
There are lawmakers that have already drafted up transphobic legislation that tries to phrase things like "only females should be allowed to participate in women's sports"

And every time I see that shit I'm like, "I'm female. Wtf are they talking about."
