I am not very savvy on social media, and try not to engage. However, I can no longer remain quiet. My first twitter thread, be kind. /1
Dear Teacher,
As a parent of three children in the public education system I feel I can no longer remain silent as our Government attempts to discredit the hard work you do. /2

I have volunteered, sat on the parent council and worked within schools since before my children were attending. This has equated to sixteen years of involvement directly in classroom or school settings. I have seen a lot of wild things that I would like to share.
I see teachers working through lunch breaks to help students who are falling behind. I have seen teachers purchase supplies for students who don’t have their own. I see teachers purchase food for students who come without lunch.

I have seen teachers arrive at school hours before students and stay hours after they leave. I see teachers hurt when their students are struggling and I see teachers cheer when their students achieve success. /5
I have seen teachers moderate difficult discussions between peers with class and always, always, always without bias. /6
From my family personally I would like to:
Thank you for holding my child’s hand as we both cried on their first day of kindergarten, then calling me on YOUR break to let me know that he is now laughing and making friends. /7

Thank you for always leading positively and providing proactive solutions when my child is having a bad day and disruptive in class.
Thank you for knowing that we are on the same side and want what is best for our kids. I know not all parents afford you the same respect. /8

Thank you for creating an inquiry based writing project when my child was struggling. You kept everyone engaged and left no one behind.
Thank you for sharing concerns when my child was struggling and providing useful tools to help me help them. /9

Thank you for supervising things like Reading Buddies and School Patrols that provide opportunities for my child to be a leader.
Thank you for supervising extracurricular's like sports, band concerts and after school clubs that extend learning beyond the classroom. /10

I am sorry you have been the latest group on attack from OUR government. We see the hard work you do. We value the hard work you do. We have your back. /11
