A few thoughts on the latest leaked report discourse:
- there were some examples of really horrendous and racist messages that no amount of context can justify
- but there were lots of examples of the report spinning stuff and making outlandish claims that weren’t backed up
- the 2017 election wasn’t sabotaged. Those involved tried to protect seats of MPs they liked (which is not how you should run a campaign) by giving them extra resources. Yes many may not have wanted Corbyn to do well, but crucially they didn’t think he would
-the parts dealing with antisemitism are laughably poor. They assign motive to staffers with no basis, blatantly speculate, distort how key events turned out and don’t bother to include many major events that don’t fit their narrative
- Labour is probably going to get in legal shit for the unredacted report being leaked, and deservedly so. Most of the stuff in it was not public interest, and certainly little of the personal information was
-the report was an attempt to blame certain individuals and factions. It didn’t aim to solve the issue of antisemitism.
The EHRC isn’t going to play the blame game, it cares about the institution as a whole
-the fact that every single Jew mentioned was specifically identified as being Jewish is creepy as fuck.
Aside from anything else I have 0 confidence anyone who thinks that’s ok to do in an official report actually understands antisemitism
- It’s been confirmed that senior people in GLU wrote this report and Formby oversaw it. Why didn’t they start the disciplinary processes against certain people immediately ?!
Basically it’s a political document written with a goal in mind. That doesn’t mean that you should discard everything it says (especially those with documentary evidence) but you also can’t present it as the unbiased truth
Also in no way would it be a good thing for the *entire* WhatsApp chat to be put in the public domain.
The WhatsApp chats are available to the party so will be available to the Forde inquiry and disciplinary bodies.
No need to release the who chat to the public
