Bharat-1: The origin of the name Bharat is related to Bharata, son of Lord Rishabhdev, a descendant of King Manu, the Chakravarti Emperor of ancient India. Srimad Bhagwat and Jain texts describe their lives and other births.
Rishabhdev came from Swayambhu Manu in the fifth generation in this order - Swayambhu Manu, Priyabrata, Agnighra, Navel and then Rishabh. The king and sage Rishabhanath had two sons - Bharata and Bahubali.
When Bahubali attained renunciation, Rishabh made Bharata the Chakravarti emperor. When Bharat got disinterested, he handed over the coronation to his elder son and went to the forest.
Bharat-2: Rama's younger brother Bharata was the second son of King Dasaratha. His mother was Kaikeyi. His other brothers were Lakshmana and Shatrughna. According to tradition, Rama was supposed to sit on the throne but he got 14 years of exile.
Bharata 3: King Dushyanta of Purvansha and Bharata, son of Shakuntala, is counted among the sixteen best kings mentioned in the 'Mahabharata'. According to an account in Abhigyan Shakuntalam by Kalidasa, Bharat was named after King Dushyant and his wife Shakuntala's son Bharata.
