Let’s go 👇
“Losers have goals.

Winners have systems.”

// Scott Adams
1:

What Are Goals?

Goals are discrete events that happen in the future:

1. Make a 20% return on this investment
2. Deadlift 350 pounds
3. Lose 50 pounds
4. Make $1M

Goals often have deadlines.
2:

What Are Systems?

A system, by contrast, is something you do repeatedly.

1. Invest in undervalued companies
2. Deadlift 2x/week
3. Intermittent fast
4. Be a serial entrepreneur

Unlike discrete goals, systems are a process of refinement and improvement.
3:

What's An Example?

If you’re an entrepreneur...

Your Goal is to build a $1M dollar business.

Your System is how you come up with ideas, execute products, and market your offerings.
4:

The Problem With Goals

With most goals, you exist in a state of near continuous failure.

- If you deadlift 300 pounds (not 350)
- If you lose 40 pounds (not 50)
- If you save $900k (not $1M)

Those are all great things. But you’re still a failure based on the goals you set.
Over time, this feeling depletes you.

If you hit the goal, you feel great. For a bit...

But then you realize that you’ve lost the thing that gave you purpose.

So you set new goals. And you re-enter the cycle of inadequacy.
5:

The Benefits Of Systems

Systems people see life as an ongoing process.

Instead of seeking to lose 50 pounds...
- You fast daily and go to the gym 3x/week

Instead of seeking to make $1M...
- You create business systems that repeatedly surface and execute on good ideas
Happiness and meaning emerge from the process of following the system.

Most importantly, systems help you escape the "yo-yo" psychology of goals.

This allows you to play the game long-term and continuously improve your odds of success.

You get "luckier" over time.
Conclusion:

“You do not rise to the level of your goals.

You fall to the level of your systems.”

// James Clear
Goals are good for setting direction.

But they limit your happiness before you hit your goal. And deplete your motivation once achieve it.

Ultimately, it is your commitment to your system — of continuous refinement and improvement — that determines your progress and success.
That's all friends!
