My take on the stages of becoming a professional writer. A successful on is a whole different thing. A thread:
When you first start, you’re going to find yourself with blocks of descriptions and on-the-nose dialogue. Don’t worry, you’ll grow out of that.
And then you’re gonna find your voice. Try to never lose that. But you’re probably will. Then you’re gonna find yourself emotionally attached to some of your darling. Im sorry, but some of them are gonna get killed. Thats just the way it is.
And then you’re gonna take every wrong advice on the internet as the right way to become a successful writer. That’s the price to pay, but remember, you’re trying to become a professional writer, success can only come after.
And then youre gonna learn your lesson, take what works and reject what doesn’t. And then you’re gonna watch your story takes a life of its own. That’s going to be your reward for getting this far. And then the rewrite process begins. I know, you’re just now getting started.
It’s going to be frustrating. It’s going to feel like it’s no longer the story that you want to tell. That’s growth, believe me. And then you’re gonna want to give up. Don’t. You’re almost there.
And the you’re gonna get to a point where you’re searching for better active verbs to describe things like “Looks and Walks”, you’re doing amazing sweetie. Keep going. And then comes the Nos. Keep going. And then comes you’re suck. Keep going.
And when you feel like giving up. Another fellow writer will be right there to pull you back in. Trust me, it’ll be worth it. And then one day, while out shoooing, thinking about how much of a a disappoint that your family thinks you are. You’ll get that email, that phone call.
And even then, you won’t still believe in yourself. All those rejections will be there to remind of your unworthiness. And if you’re lucky enough, you’ll still have your voice. But you’re a writer now, a professional one. You get to decide how this story ends.
Track your stages. You’re improving. Take a break if you need to. Take a walk if you have to. Don’t forget to smile. And Don’t give up. You didn’t choose to do this. Most writers are created. Not made. You’re saving lives. I should know, cause you saved mine.
Ohh, there will also be typos and grammatical errors like I’ve done in this thread. And no, that doesn’t make you stupid. It just makes you a writer who’s writing.
