Mark Zuckerberg must answer why he continues to empower Mr Kaplan, therefore allowing him to keep his finger on the scale for the sole purpose of advancing said anti-immigrant, anti-woman right wing agenda.

The political consequences of the Zuckerberg-Sandberg extreme deference to Kaplan alone are incredibly serious, but the public health crisis has exposed even more immediate consequences.

Facebook was the last to act on the viral hydroxychloroquine video because it originated at Breitbart, a right-wing website Kaplan insisted on giving “trusted” status.

No employee should be fired for stopping the spread of misinformation, or for trying to uphold the policies Facebook says it claims are important.

Zuckerberg has said he would enforce these policies. A good first step would be examining whether Kaplan does that very thing. If not, Zuckerberg must replace him with someone who will.
