If you’ve been following the AAMC’s recent remarks regarding #WaiveTheMCAT & care about pre-med students and the future of medicine, PLEASE contact your deans of admissions and help make the MCAT optional this year. 1/
AAMC should be unbiased when it comes to medical school decisions about MCAT requirements, yet they’re pushing their own money-driven agenda and using URiMs & those with lower SES as an excuse for schools to not #WaiveTheMCAT. MCAT optional will NOT disadvantage students. 2/
@DavidJSkorton and @MCWDean are claiming that URiMs and students from lower SES backgrounds NEED the MCAT to compete with other applicants and going MCAT optional will result in admission inequities, but this is categorically false. 3/
Even the Chief Services Officer of @AAMCtoday, Gabrielle Campbell, recognizes that the MCAT “is the culmination of structural racism experienced by URiMs throughout their educational journey.” Please #MedTwitter & #MedicalStudents help reach admissions deans at your schools. 4/
I’m not affiliated with @EthicalStudents (yet); however, I know they have amazing content & even developed the necessary language regarding optional MCAT that med schools can use. Please check out the resources on their website. Everything needed to contact adcoms is there. 5/5
