Do I have any mycologists lurking in readership? I got questions about yeast.

Specifically horror questions, if that sweetens the pot any. Like, we know mushrooms form mycelium networks, right? Suppose I had a dark tarn lying around and owing to *handwaving* we had the equivalent of an evil kombucha mother in it.

I am not married to yeast as the active fungus ingredient! I could also go with the stuff that causes cotton wool disease in aquarium fish! Actually, that stuff is awesome too. What fungus gets me a sentient scoby lurking in the dark yarn making gelatinous drifting sheets and—

—the gelatinous sheets act like brain cells in the tarn and it’s trying to communicate as a dark and risen god possibly by taking over the body of a woman who seems to have been buried alive within reach of the dark tarn—

—not that I was in the middle of rewriting House of Usher and then MEXICAN GOTHIC came out and now I can’t use mushrooms because @silviamg absolutely dropped the mic on that or anything AHEM so anyhow evil kombucha what’ve we got?
