I wrote about what it means to miss the Minnesota State Fair, both personally and collectively. https://statesider.us/mn-state-fair/
The State Fair is a living record of who we are at this moment and where we’re going together, a mirror of our lives far more potent and accurate than the animatronic metaphors of It’s a Small World. https://statesider.us/mn-state-fair/
An anecdote I didn't include in this piece:
A few years ago, my parents' friends from Scotland came to visit. Older couple, never been to the USA before. Their stay in MN almost perfectly coincided with the 12-day run of the fair.

My parents are HUGE State Fair fans. So they take their Scottish friends. They LOVE it. They all go again. And again. My parents are like, "Maybe that's enough!? There's more to do in Minnesota!"
And the friends say, "We can just go without you!" So they do.
Finally...

Finally...
It's the Scottish friends' last day in town. They have been to the Fair SIX TIMES.
My parents list all these cool things they can do, day trips and restaurants and lots of stuff they haven't done. "It's entirely your call," my parents say.
They all went back to the State Fair.

Anyway, the Minnesota State Fair is great and I'm going to keep bumping this all day for MN Twitter and/or anyone who wants a peek into this weird and wonderful place https://statesider.us/mn-state-fair/
BTW here is my mom's Minnesota State Fair crop art entry from two years ago https://twitter.com/johnmoe/status/902564206247063552
